Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Livia De Paolis earned a Masters degree in Philosophy from University 'Sapienza' of Rome, while simultaneously working on her craft as an actress. She then moved to NY where she turned her focus to contemporary theatre. Over the years she has collaborated with some of the most innovative personalities of the New York Theater community such as Richard Foreman and the Ontological Hysteric Theater, 3LD, SITI Company, Labyrinth Theater Company and NY Stage and Film, with whom she originated the title role in John Patrick Shanley's one act Veronica. The play was directed by Shanley at the Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College, in Poughkeepsie, NY. A workshop production of Veronica was also presented at the Hudson Theater Guild in Hollywood, Los Angeles. A permanent resident of the U.S. as she was granted a green card as an artist of extraordinary ability, she is currently going through the process of naturalization and will soon be holding dual citizenship. Her first feature film Emoticon ;) which she wrote, directed and starred in, opposite Michael Cristofer, Carol Kane and Sonia Braga, was theatrically released by Indiecan Pictures in NY and LA and it's currently available in DVD and on all the major digital platforms. Emoticon ;) premiered at Dances With Films in LA and was the opening night movie at the Gen Art Film Festival in NY, where it won the Best Cast Collaboration Award. The movie also features some original music, which De Paolis wrote and performs. Her short film Awestruck is currently on the festival circuit. As a child she literally took her first steps on a movie set. Founded by her grandfather, her family ran De Paolis I.N.C.I.R., the only Studios structure privately owned in the country. In operation from 1941-1991, De Paolis I.N.C.I.R. housed the productions of over 2000 films including the works of Fellini, Bertolucci, Visconti, Rossellini, Antonioni, Pasolini, Godard.
